Laparoscopic sigmoidectomy for diverticular disease: a live educational procedure
Professor Morales-Conde demonstrates his technique of laparoscopic sigmoid resection for diverticular disease in a previously heart transplanted patient. In this live educational video, a medial-to-lateral approach is performed. A left colon resection for diverticular disease is performed with splenic flexure mobilization, high ligation of the IMA, and side-to-end anastomosis as a standardized procedure for any benign and malignant left colonic conditions.
During this live operation, the operator interacts with the course audience giving his “tips and tricks” for an outstanding procedure.

Laparoscopic sigmoidectomy for sigmoiditis with transanal specimen extraction
The objective of this video is to demonstrate a sigmoid colectomy technique for a diverticular sigmoiditis with a transanal extraction of the resected colonic segment. The goal of this video is to demonstrate the feasibility of this technique by means of only 3 trocars to further reduce parietal damage. The author reveals his tips and tricks for a perfectly standardized minimally invasive operative technique. In addition to colonic extraction, the different stages of mechanical anastomosis are perfectly outlined. This team recommends that this type of intervention should be used for benign pathologies.

Laparoscopic sigmoidectomy for benign disease: how I do it
Dr. Michael LI (Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, Hong Kong) demonstrates his approach to laparoscopic sigmoidectomy in a case of sigmoid diverticulitis with an audience made up of renowned experts in colorectal surgery. Discussions around appropriate strategies for the management of non-oncologic disease between the operating surgeon and the experts are moderated by Professor Nicolas Demartines (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois, Lausanne, Switzerland). A brand-new dissecting instrument, the Sonicision™ cordless ultrasonic dissection device (Covidien, Valleylab) is also used during specific steps of the procedure.

Three trocar sigmoidectomy for diverticulitis with transanal extraction
The combination of laparoscopy and specimen extraction through a natural orifice has the potential to decrease wound complications and to improve postoperative recovery.
The objective of this film is to demonstrate the possibilities of specimen extraction of a sigmoid diverticulitis transanally with reduction of abdominal openings that may sometimes induce incisional hernias and postoperative pain.
In this case, a laparoscopic three-port technique is performed: one 12mm optical port situated in the umbilicus, and two right iliac fossa ports (one 5mm port placed in the right flank, and a 12mm port in the right iliac fossa for introduction of staplers).
