Laparoscopic treatment of a recurrent incisional hernia
Epublication WebSurg.com, May 2005;05(05). URL: http://websurg.com/doi/vd01en1787e
This video demonstrates a laparoscopic repair of recurrent ventral hernia after a previous open repair with mesh. The surgeon uses three trocars inserted in the left lateral abdominal wall. The adhesions are taken down and the hernial contents are reduced. Once the hernia defect is fully visualized, a piece of goretex mesh large enough to cover the hernia defect with a 5 cm overlap of surrounding abdominal wall, is inserted and secured in position by two rows of tackers inserted concentrically. The surgeon in this case does not use any transmural sutures to anchor the mesh.
