Bile duct injury during cholecystectomy is a serious surgical complication that can have devastating consequences, including a significant risk of early death. Bile duct injury also has a major effect on healthcare costs since injured patients frequently need prolonged and repeated hospital stays, multiple reinterventions, and long sick leaves. In this lecture, Dr. Jeffrey Ponsky describes the role of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in biliary tract injury.
