Appendicular abscess can usually be managed with a medical treatment, including a long hospital stay, high-dose antibiotic therapy, and sometimes parenteral nutrition. After abscess resolution, the ileocecal appendix is removed 2-3 months later. This strategy allows for a cecal preservation. Sometimes, this option is not possible. A sepsis may lead to a more aggressive strategy and a laparoscopic cecal resection and right hemicolectomy are performed. This radical surgery allows for a quicker and definitive resolution of the infection. A laparoscopic approach offers the patient all the advantages of this surgical option.
