In 1809, Johann Friedrich Meckel described Meckel’s diverticulum named after him. It is a remnant of the proximal portion of the Yolk stalk, which frequently develops into a blindly ending diverticulum of the ileum. In infants, the most frequent symptom is bleeding but in adults, it is obstruction.
