In this video, we describe the anatomic thoracoscopic repair of esophageal atresia with distal tracheoesophageal fistula (ATREA) in patients with different anatomic presentations (newborn with typical anatomy, newborn with azygos lobe, newborn with major vascular malformation) in a stepwise fashion. Femoral hernia: laparoscopic McVay repair

This is the case of a previously asymptomatic 11-year-old boy who presented with an inguinocrural swelling with physical exercise and was proposed for a laparoscopic percutaneous inguinal ring suturing (PIRS). The diagnosis of femoral hernia was made intraoperatively.
The laparoscopic McVay technique was applied, using non-absorbable Ethibond® 2/0 stitches with sliding knots to close the femoral defect. The peritoneum was closed using a PIRS technique.
The patient was discharged on the same day and he was fully asymptomatic in the 48 hours following the procedure.

Epigastric hernia repair using laparoscopy

An 8-year-old girl was transferred to our hospital due to a localized abdominal midline protrusion. An epigastric defect was identified in the linea alba. It measured around 0.5cm in the largest diameter. Upon parental agreement, we proposed a laparoscopic repair.

Laparoscopic diamond-shaped repair of duodenal atresia

This is the case of a female newborn weighing 1080 grams, delivered at 29 weeks of gestational age due to the premature rupture of membranes. An abdominal radiography was performed in the clinical setting of non-bilious vomiting and absence of meconium passage. It revealed the double bubble sign, pathognomonic for congenital duodenal obstruction. Laparoscopy showed a type I duodenal atresia and a diamond-shaped duodenal anastomosis was performed maintaining the minimally invasive approach. Duodenal atresia represents one of the most challenging conditions for a laparoscopic skilled pediatric surgeon. This video shows that the procedure is feasible even in a low-birth-weight (LBW) premature newborn.
