Candidates for the European Board of Surgery Qualification (EBSQ) Coloproctology examination must demonstrate the requisite knowledge and skills for effective patient-centered care in a diverse population. This mandates that the candidate has obtained the appropriate national surgical qualification. Colorectal surgery is a major part. Beside the European Manual of Medicine, the need to provide a reliable and respected knowledge base including surgical technical aspects to prepare candidates for the examination and to become a competent specialist in colorectal surgery is self-evident.
